My Pond Setup

My pond soon after completion and prior to adding covers to the filters back in 2009.

As a reference point for future discussions, the main pond is 6 foot deep and 4,250 gallons, 8 foot wide for most of its length with 2 Spindrifter bottom drains.

Filtration is effectively on 3 separate circuits:

1. Spindrifter bottom drain to Cetus sieve to Badu Spec pump to bakki shower and back to pond

2. Spindrifter bottom drain to Nexus 200 Eazy to Oase ECO Dry 8000 and back to pond (mid water feed)

3. Certiken skimmer (float weir) to TMC Proclear 55w UV to Oase ECO Dry 8000 to bakki shower (not shown above) and back to pond

My parameters tend to be good, never any ammonia, occasionally traces of nitrite (presumably due to 12 large koi and 1 massive sturgeon) and quite high nitrate - the incoming water has a reading of 50 ppm nitrate and with the volume of fish and food and comparatively low water changes (around 5% or less per week), not surprisingly I have high nitrates.

This causes blanketweed issues which causes problems with the Nexus and the bottom drains blocking - can be avoided by regular applications of blanketweed treatment, but if I miss one....
